  • Walgreens Starter Scenarios: 8/19 – 8/25/2012

You’ll find a list of this week’s Walgreens deals here.

If you’re new to The Drugstore Game, these new starter transactions will help you get your feet wet and show you how The Drugstore Game can save you money on things you already buy. If you don’t understand the transactions, read my Drugstore Game Primer, Common Sense with Money’s FAQ (which has a handy explanation of acronyms), and my explanation of How to Play The Drugstore Game at Walgreens. In these transactions, I assume that you do not have any Register Rewards to start with.

    Transaction #1:
1 Glade Expression Fragrance Mist Starter Kit @ $2.99

    $3/1 Glade Expressions Fragrance Mist printable {may need to be adjusted down to $2.99}

    Pay: Tax
    Receive: $1 RR

    Transaction #2:
    2 Crest 3D Whitening Rinse @ 2/$6
1 Mini Memo or Composition Book @ $0.20 with in-ad coupon

B1G1 Crest Rinse, up to $5 from 7/29 P&G Insert
    in-ad coupon for memo book
    $1 RR from previous transaction

    Pay: $2.20 + tax
    Receive: $4 RR

    Transaction #3:
1 Scrubbing Bubbles Bowl Cleaner Starter Kit @ $6.99
1 Mini Memo or Composition Book @ $0.20 with in-ad coupon

Scrubbing Bubbles Bowl Cleaner Starter Kit from 7/29 SS Insert
    in-ad coupon for memo book
    $4 RR from previous transaction

    Pay: $0.19 + tax
    Receive: $2 RR

In sum, you’ll pay $2.39 + tax for air freshener, two bottles of mouth rinse, toilet cleaner and two notebooks – plus you’ll have a $2 RR to roll next week or spend this week, making your net cost just $0.39 + tax. That’s less than you’d pay for any of these items at other stores!

    1. The cashier at Walgreens (in Santa Monica) wouldn’t take my $3 coupon because he said that the item had to be at least $3 or more. I tried to explain to him that the coupon needed to be adjusted down, but he still would not take it. Did you have any trouble with yours?

      • Chief Family Officer says:

I haven’t been to Walgreens this week yet, but I recommend showing the Walgreens Coupon Policy, which states “In the event that any item’s selling price is less than the value of the coupon, Walgreens will only accept the coupon in exchange for the selling price of the item.” Although it no longer says so explicitly, to me that implies that coupons will be adjusted down to the sale price. Hope that helps!

    2. When I click the link for the coupon it says that it’s $2/1 on any Glade Sense Starter Kit.
Still going to use it because it’s a killer deal, just wanted to let you know that for some reason I don’t have the $3/1 🙁 Was I suppose to print it at an earlier date?
