  • Target Deals: 5/2/2012

I found quite a few good deals at Target today, so I thought I would share. Some of the coupons may no longer be available, but if you tend to print coupons to use later, you might find them in your coupon stash like I did. Morning Coffee: LA Times confirms Target’s coupon deduction issues

On Thursday, the LA Times reported that Target has been short-changing consumers for months by failing to deduct the full amount of a coupon. Of course, this has been a known issue for a while. The article just says Target is “aware” of the problem, but doesn’t say if or when it will be fixed, and all we coupon users can do at the moment is keep a close eye on the registers. Actually, that’s not quite true – we can avoid shopping at Target, and since the stores near me aren’t very coupon friendly, I seem to be making fewer trips to Target than ever.

Coupons Inc.Coupons.com has a coupon for 50 cents/1 Pillsbury Simply Buttermilk Biscuits, which are on sale at Vons/Pavilions (and possibly other Safeway stores) for $1.50. If your coupon doubles, you get a can for just 50 cents. I love the Simply products because the ingredients list is so short and normal. I also cannot get my biscuits to come out light and fluffy, so I will probably pick up a few of these. The $3/1 any Similac formula coupon is also still available. Links via Logical Media.

An A Full Cup user has managed to get media attention to a common coupon issue at Target, where the register deducts less than the face value of the coupon. The TV station even did a follow up story to report that Target hadn’t fixed the problem after saying they would. Common Sense with Money explains that what happens is Target’s register is programmed to adjust the value of a coupon down if it would give overage, i.e., more than the value of the item purchased, but that it is making the adjustment to coupons that require the purchase of more than one item. So for example if you are using a $1/2 coupon on two items that cost 75 cents each, the register will adjust the coupon to deduct only 75 cents (the cost of one item) instead of the full $1. Keep an eye on your receipt, and since complaining to Target apparently doesn’t work, you may want to contact your state’s attorney general. The Minnesota Attorney General, at least, is aware of the issue and wants to hear from customers who’ve had this experience at Target.

Target Toy Clearance: It’s not too late!

Target’s seasonal toy clearance is going on right now, and some of the toys have hit the 75% discount mark. Apparently the store nearest my house is one of the top five stores in the country, which explains why their clearance section is always decimated. So I wasn’t expecting to find anything good when I stopped by today to pick up a few other things, and I was shocked to see a couple of Star Wars action figures that the boys will love – a two-pack of Hoth snow troopers with snow speeders for $6.49 and an ARF clone trooper (I’m not kidding, that’s what he’s called) with some kind of AT-AT walker. There was also a cart full of Hello Kitty travel toys, and I picked one up for a birthday party tomorrow for just $3.08.

The point I’m trying to make is that if the store near me still has stuff, then other stores probably do too. So it’s definitely worth checking out!

I’m not the only one loving the toy clearance – see all the stuff Mercedes got yesterday over at Common Sense with Money.

Morning Coffee: I found some good deals

One of the Targets I went to yesterday had the Rayovac batteries on 50% off clearance in the Dollar Spot. I used $1/2 coupons from the 11/8 and 12/6 SS to make them free. The coupons beeped, and I’m not sure why, but the cashier overrode them.

Today’s Toy Lightning Dealsat Amazon includes some great items: the Melissa & Doug Responsibility Chart at 7 a.m. PST, a Strawberry Shortcake playset at 8 a.m., K’Nex at 9 a.m., a well-reviewed cash register at 2 p.m., and an Erector set at 3 p.m. The last deal is at 4 p.m. Disclosure: I’m an Amazon affiliate, so any purchase you make after entering Amazon through a link on Chief Family Officer supports this site at no additional cost to you. Thank you!

Also, the 99-cent Dawn dish soap sale at CVS includes the Hand Renewal variety, so if you have the $1 off coupon from the Home Made Simple mailer, it will be free. It didn’t even beep for me.

Over at Ebates, the Daily Double store is JC Penny, which is giving 5% cash back (instead of the usual 3%). You can use code HAPPY15 to get $10 off a $50 purchase or $15 off a $75 purchase, or code CHEERS99 to get 99-cent shipping per item. (I’m pretty sure you can only use one promo code per order.) If you shop at JC Penny, consider signing up for their JCP Rewards program to earn points – for every 250 points, you’ll get a $10 certificate. To learn more about Ebates, read my original review.
