  • CVS Starter Scenarios: 6/10 – 6/16/2012

    You’ll find a list of this week’s CVS deals here.

    If you’re new to The Drugstore Game, these new starter transactions will help you get your feet wet and show you how The Drugstore Game can save you money on things you already buy. If you don’t understand the transactions, read my Drugstore Game Primer, Common Sense with Money’s FAQ (which has a handy explanation of acronyms), and my explanation of How to Play The Drugstore Game at CVS.

    Be sure to sign up for a free CVS Extra Care card – you’ll need it for the following deals (get it in store instead of online so they give you the card right away). You may also want to pick up a CVS green bag tag to earn ECBs for using reusable bags.

    This is one of those weeks where I would tell you on Facebook that I wasn’t going to post any CVS Starter Scenarios because it’s not a great week, but the iTunes gift card deal is a good one. I only buy iTunes gift cards if there’s a discount of 20% or more, and this week there is! So here’s an idea if you can use the iTunes gift card.

    Transaction #1:
    1 $50 iTunes gift card

    Pay: $50
    Receive: $10 ECB

    Transaction #2:
    1 Schick Hydro 5 or Hydro 5 Power Select Razor @ $8.99
    1 Visine-A or Visine Soothing Wipes @ $5.49
    3 Hallmark cards @ $0.99 each {sometimes this deal is regional or for American Greetings cards if that’s what your store carries; $0.99 cards are reportedly working for this deal}

    $4/1 Schick Hydro Power Select or Hydro 3 or 5 Blade Razor from 6/10 Smart Source
    $2/1 Visine Soothing Wipes from 3/11 or 6/10 Red Plum or $2/1 Visine-A from 3/11 Red Plum or printable
    $10 ECB from previous transaction

    Pay: $1.45 + tax
    Receive: $3 ECB for Schick, $2 ECB for Visine and $3 ECB for Hallmark

    In sum, you’ll pay $51.45 + tax out of pocket for a $50 iTunes gift card, a razor, Visine, and 3 greeting cards – plus you’ll have $8 in ECBs to roll next week or spend this week, making your net cost $43.45 + tax.
