  • Vons Shopping Update + Some Thoughts on Shopping Times

I did the Cottonelle deal at Vons today with no problems, and Rebecca kindly reported that she also found the blinkies and the deal went smoothly for her too. The $2/1 blinkies were right on the shelf by the packs of Cottonelle, and my $2 Catalina coupon printed as expected.

Rebecca also shared another hot deal, on Kleenex: When you buy 4 200-count boxes, they are $1.50 each. Use the 50 cents/3 coupon from the 10/3 Smart Source to get $1 off and pay $5, and you’ll get a $3 Catalina coupon back. That’s $2 for 4 boxes of tissue, or 50 cents per box, which is right around my target price range. I prefer the lotion variety, and I think they should be included in the Catalina promo, based on the information in the SlickDeals Safeway thread.

Unfortunately, I didn’t see this before I went shopping today, but San Diego Saves reports that Vons/Pavilions (and possibly all Safeway stores) have 15-piece bottles of Mentos gum on sale for 99 cents this week. There was a coupon for $1/1 any 15-piece bottle of Mentos Gum in the 10/3 SS, so you can use this coupon to get free gum. Note that the coupon may beep because it’s over the value of the price. Paragraph 5 of the Vons coupon policy states that the value of the coupon should be reduced to the purchase price.

I had plans to go to two to four more stores, but I didn’t. I had to prioritize my time, and I chose to do some things around the house before I had to pick Alex up from school. That’s one thing I’m consistently finding: I could do more shopping, but there are other things that seem more pressing. Mostly I went to Vons because I wanted to get in on the Cottonelle deal before the blinkie machine ran dry, and to get some milk (which we’ve been going through so quickly, I may have to start rationing it). If not for those needs, I might not have gone shopping at all.

I keep reminding myself that the deals keep coming around. It’s okay to keep missing some. I catch enough that we’re not going to run out of household or grocery needs, and the other things on my to-do list are at least as important, if not more so.

So here’s a reminder (mostly to myself), as we start the weekend: Be kind to yourself, and take care of yourself. You’re more important than any deal!
