The Midwest Dairy Association wants you to know that March is National Nutrition Month, and that dairy has important nutritional benefits that contribute to a healthy lifestyle. I didn’t need any convincing about dairy being nutritious, but I learned a few things, including:
- Milk and yogurt contain as much potassium as a banana. Potassium regulates the body’s fluid balance and helps maintain normal blood pressure.
- Milk and yogurt are excellent sources of Vitamin B12, which helps maintain healthy red blood cells and nerve tissue.
- Milk is one of the few dietary sources of vitamin D and just one 8 ounce glass provides 25% of your recommended daily value. Vitamin D promotes calcium absorption and helps strengthen bones.
- Milk, cheese and yogurt contain protein, which builds and repairs muscle tissue and can help you feel full while giving you a boost of energy
You can learn more about the nutritional benefits of dairy and find some great recipes at Dairy Makes Sense.
To help you get the most from your dairy, the Midwest Dairy Association is giving one lucky CFO reader a special Dairy Makes Sense prize pack that includes a Cuisinart CSB-76 Smart Stick Hand Blender ($55 value), recipe cards, an apron, hot pad, cheese knife, grocery pad and refrigerator magnet.
