Drugstore Game Adventures

Can you believe it? We were rear-ended the week before Thanksgiving and we still don't have our car back. The body shop has pushed their completion date back by a few days five times now for over two weeks. It's incredibly frustrating, but we are still surviving as a one-car family, something I would not have thought possible two months ago.

However, one result of being a one-car family is that I just don't get to the drugstores as often as I would like. I'm sure my favorite cashier at Walgreens thinks I'm dead since he hasn't seen me since the accident, after seeing me at the same time every week for months. But I managed to get to CVS and Walgreens today, a little bit unexpectedly so I missed a couple of deals at Walgreens that I'd like to go back for. Hopefully that'll be possible.

Here are some highlights:

At Walgreens, you can use the $2.50 off Electrasol coupon from yesterday's paper on the 20-count box of gel packs, then submit for rebate #31, which will get you $1.50 back. Assuming you have the rebate credited to a gift card, you'll make a profit of 66 cents. Progresso soup is 4 for $5 with the in-ad coupon, so if you have any $1.10 off printable coupons, you'll pay just 15 cents per can (note: the coupons might be printing for a lower value now - I've printed my max so I can't confirm). Selected Garnier Fructis shampoo and conditioners are on sale for $2.99. If you use the $2 off coupon in the EasySaver catalog and a $1 off coupon, it'll be free. (There were coupons in the 11/9 and yesterday's Red Plum inserts). And if you have any $1 off Reynolds Aluminum Foil coupons from the 11/16 Smart Source insert, you can get free foil (it's 99 cents with the in-ad coupon; have the manufacturer coupon scanned first to ensure it doesn't beep).

At CVS, you can get another bottle of Garnier Fructis for free after ECB and coupon. But my best deal of the day was on the free-after-ECB in January Children's Throat Coolers. They're $4.99, and there were Buy one, get one free coupons in the 12/7 Smart Source insert (you can also print the coupon). The coupon lets you pay $4.99 and get $9.98 back in ECBs. I was sure the store would be out of stock, but there were actually plenty. Finally, I think I'm going to have to go back to do the "Great Deal" conceived by Erin at Coupon Cravings. I just hope I can make it back to 2 drugstores this week!

For the time being, I'm avoiding Rite Aid since they don't have outstanding deals on anything I need and it's a hassle to get there at the moment. But you can make a $3 profit this week on SoyJoy bars - Lori at Hooray for Freebates tells you how.

CVS: Soy Joy bars (6 pack) on sale for $6. Get $6 ECB. Limit 5. Use 3 of the $3/10 coupons from yesterday's paper - pay $21 OOP (or with ECBs like I did lol) and get $30 in ECBs back. And 30 Soy Joy bars - the red ones are totally yummy.

I am eating one now lol.

Also the throat coolers limit is actually 5. I got 6 of them, paid for 3, and got ECBs for 5 back (paid $14.97 oop, used 3 B1G1 coupons, got $24.95 ECBs). Well, I used ECBs to "pay" lol.

I heart CVS.

I've been working all weekend to get my coupons in order. I have a question about walgreens.

How many easy saver coupons can I use? I'd like to buy 5 fructis products, can I get the $2 discount on them all?

@PaidTwice - Ooh, thanks for reminding me about those. I'll have to get those too. Although the idea of having to roll a $30 ECB in one transaction is a little daunting. I hated the bar I tried before, maybe I'll have to give the red one a try. :)

@thatwhimsygirl - You should be able to buy 5, have the coupon scanned once, and get $10 off. I only qualify it because there's always the chance that you'll run into a cranky cashier who doesn't quite understand the couponing rules. But I've done that many times. Good luck!

I've done 3 of my Walgreens trips so far. I had some trouble using my $3RR (from cereal) this morning, but I think the cashier was just trying to scan it too fast.

They're starting to call me a "coupon lady", oh dear.

We now have plenty of Progresso soup (cheap easy lunch or dinner-add a salad and cornbread), Quaker oatmeal, Palmolive and Softsoap:-).
