I'm hoping to stop by Walgreens on the way home from work tomorrow, and I'm also hoping that everything I want will be in stock. I'll probably have to get extremely lucky, though, because there are quite a few deals I have my eye on.
For instance, there's a really good deal on the Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner. Although I was initially skeptical, I've read some good reviews of this and now I want to try it - anything that saves me time and keeps my house clean is wonderful. Plus, in his review, Lazy Man offered a cheap DIY refill for the otherwise expensive solution that the cleaner uses. The cleaner is on sale for $19.99, it comes with a $10 Register Rewards, and there's a $5 off coupon from an old newspaper. If you've used this cleaner, I'd love to know what your experience has been and what your opinion of this product is - I'm not going to be wasting my money, am I?
Chex Mix is on sale for 99 cents. I can't get it to work, but there is a printable coupon for $1 off. I do have a number of 50-cents off coupons from various newspapers, so I'll be using those. I take treats for the boys' teachers once a week, and inexpensive Chex Mix is great for that. I can also stock them for Tyler's birthday party in just a few months.
Granola bars are on sale for $2 per box, which is about the best sale price that I can find these days. I have coupons from the paper that will make these $1.50 per box or less, so I'll stock up on these as well since they make great portable snacks.
Crest Pro-Health Mouthwash is free after Register Rewards, and a money-maker with the coupon that was in the P&G insert from the August 31 newspaper.
Supposedly, there are Magic Bullet blenders on clearance for approximately $15. I'm not expecting to find one of these, but I'll definitely look and pick one up if I do.
Tina reports that vinyl or latex gloves are on sale for $4.99 (they are regularly priced at $9.99). The $3.00 off coupon in the Easy Saver book makes them a mere $1.99 each. (Thanks, Tina!)
I've learned my lesson about not waiting for a one-day or two-day only coupon on hot items. So if I see a store brand water pitcher filter, I'll buy it. It'll be free after rebate anyway.
Last but most definitely not least, there's a great money-making deal on Robitussin. You can find the details at Common Sense with Money.
One word about coupons and Register Rewards: visit the store where the employees are the friendliest if you plan on using these when making your purchase. Using a Register Reward on the same deal will prevent you from getting a second RR on that deal. But generally, you can use RRs from a different deal, as well as coupons, and still receive an RR. However, I've read many stories on the coupon forums about RRs not printing, and managers and cashiers saying it's because a coupon and/or RR was used. It's unclear whether Walgreens has changed their policy; it actually seems like each store has discretion to prevent the RR from printing when a coupon or RR is used. So just be prepared for this scenario and go in with a plan, whether you plan to argue (in the nicest way possible, of course), make the purchase anyway, or ask that the transaction be voided and your coupons/RR be returned.

I am not a fan of the automatic shower cleaner. I didn't feel that it got things very clean and it doesn't spray high enough. It sort of left things a bit sticky as well. I have taken it out of the shower because my husband constantly complained that it took up too much space and he didn't like the smell of the solution. And now, I have two bottles of refill solution that have just been sitting around.
I worked a deal a couple months ago where I ended up getting the shower cleaner for free after rebates. I like it enough so far. My husband is tall, so when we built our house, we had the shower head placed high, so I think it sprays around fairly well for us. We have a glass shower door, and it seems to really keep the mildew away. I thought a cheaper alternative would be to just keep a spray bottle in the shower and spray when you get out. I did do the Walgreens deal this past week to put in the other shower, which is more standard. We'll see how it works on that one!
I used the Crest Deal with coupon and the RRs to buy newspapers on Sunday. I went back yesterday and bought Crest again with the coupon to save the RRs for Newspapers for next Sunday. What a deal! I also tried the very cheap chocolate and it was great! There is a Walgreens coupon in the Easysaver catalog for $3 off two bars of Herbert's chocolate, making them either free or very cheap.
I have not used the Scrubbing Bubbles machine, but have a good friend who loves it. I was going to try it before I realized I'd have move EVERYTHING in the shower/tub above the level of the sprayer and that was just too inconvenient for us.
I still use my vinegar/dish soap mix in a spray bottle. Spray it on, let sit for 30 minutes, and it rinses right off (I use a scrub brush to get any real grime off, but it just takes a quick wipe).
never tried the shower cleaner, but i had the same issue with using coupons and register rewards today(in rhode island.) the manager came over and put it all through for me, but i felt like a jerk holding up the line, and the vibe was that i was doing something wrong. the clerk was flat out refusing coupons and even she didn't know why, then told me i could not use my 2 dollars in rewards (two single dollar) cause you could only use one per transaction. I then asked her why if i could only use one one dollar reward why they gave away more than that at a time. she said she didn't know. In the end it all got put through, i was polite and apologetic, saying things like" is there a manager i can talk to, because i need to understand how this works." I'm new to this and on past trips i've had them refuse coupons and never questioned it, but it's not like i'm trying to do anything i shouldn't be or using copies or anything, sorry just frustrated i guess. but the deals are too good to stop going you know?
There have been a lot of stories on The Consumerist about that Crest Pro-Health mouthwash. People were having problems with it staining their teeth.
I haven't tried the shower cleaner. Our cats often lick the water at the tub drain and I can't risk them getting any cleaner when they do it. Wish I could try one though; I hate cleaning the tub & shower!
we use the shower cleaner and like it. also, i try to check out at the cosmetics counter at walgreens. there's usually no one there and i don't feel like i'm holding up the line.
Hi Cathy!
Just popping by to say hi and acknowledge that I owe you something. I am sitting down this weekend to do it. The kids are not napping :-(
Does anyone know how long the shower cleaner RR is good for? because there's also a $10 rebate back on it in October. if the RR gos all the way through the end of the months you could get it free/make some money with the rebate next month.
Don't forget to get overage with the Visine and if you use Tylenol Allergy check my blog for a hidden deal on that.
Walgreens is hot!
