CVS this week: Some good ECB deals

I've been taking it easy in The Drugstore Game lately, but this week, there are some good deals at CVS that will allow me to get cheap bath soap for the boys. I'm planning two transactions:

Transaction #1:
4 Right Guard deodorants @ $2.99 = $11.96

Coupons: $2 off $10 purchase, 4 $1 off any Right Guard

Total: $5.96, get $8 ECBs ($2 per item - the limit is 5, but I only have 4 coupons; I am hoping I don't run into any number of coupon limits, and to minimize that chance, I'm going to go to the most coupon-friendly store in my area)

Transaction #2:
1 L'Oreal ProAge, Revitalift or Skin Genesis cleanser = $5.99
1 Burt's Bees shampoo/body wash - $6.99
2 Schick Quattro for women (B1G1) - $5.99

Total before coupons: $18.97

Coupons: $2 off $10 purchase, $1 off L'Oreal, 2 $4 off Quattro

Total: $7.97, get $5.99 for the L'Oreal (Money Saving Mom shows the Quattro deal, but I'm not seeing it in my ad, so it might be a regional thing, i.e., not in the LA area; I'll just have to see)

I was originally very excited because I thought I'd be able to take advantage of the two-day ECB deal on Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioner (buy one at $2.49, get $1 ECB) when I thought that the $2 off coupon from a recent paper applied. But it seemed too good to be true so I took a closer look and sure enough, the coupon is only good on the "family size" (or hair color). Bummer.

Still, I'm excited to get be able to get Burt's Bees essentially for free (since I'll pay with ECBs and a gift card). This is my preferred bath soap for the boys since it doesn't contain any sodium laurel sulfate. I know the general consensus is that SLS is harmless, but this is another one of those times when I feel it's better to be safe than sorry - especially since the cost really isn't that high because a bottle lasts a long time. At most, we're paying an extra $10 each year to use Burt's Bees instead of Huggies or Johnson & Johnson, which I can easily live with.

Hold onto that Family Size HE coupon, and get a second one from someone! Next week, that size will be this ECB deal:

2 Fam Size Herbal Essences 11.00
Use the 2/10 coupon, two of the $2 off manu coupons, and you'll get $2 ECBs back. You'll get two big bottles for $3.

I love CVS and the ECB program but I always end up with an issue with my purchase or coupons. Yesterday the shampoos were not ringing up at the 2day sale price and the cashier just said "Sorry". Even when I got a manager involved, he could care less. He fixed mine but I know he didn't make note of it. The signs are always in the wrong place or on the wrong size item and I have to be extra vigilant about everything I am buying. It's nice to get free and cheap stuff, but I'm beginning to wonder if this is worth the effort for me. Does anyone else have these problems with their local CVS? Just curious. (thanks for posting the deals though! sorry for the cvs rant!)

@Workout Mommy - I'm so sorry you're having trouble! I think it unfortunately totally depends on the store and the employees. Is there a different CVS that you can go to? Or maybe you could switch to Wags? One of the stores near me is generally coupon friendly, and has a couple of employees who are awesome about coupons. It's my preferred store, but unfortunately, it's smaller and doesn't have as much stock.

The other stores in my area are okay about coupons, but some times are definitely better than others. If you can, maybe you could try going at different times of day to see if there's a friendly cashier you could get to know a little better than others?

I know that if you dread going into the store, it's not worth it. But saving money is so much fun too. I'd love it if you could find a way to have it all!
