I've never been to North Carolina myself, but a couple of years ago, a friend's sister and her husband left Southern California and moved there because they found the lifestyle to be so agreeable. My friend periodically reports that they're quite happy despite being across the country from family.

If we lived closer, I'd consider a trip to Raleigh, but for us, it's a bit far for the Fall Getaway that they're suggesting, even though Alex would probably really enjoy that dinosaur exhibit. If you're on the east coast, though, you should definitely check it out! The calendar is full of events, including theater performances, several festivals, a Regis Philbin and Susan Lucci "Vegas style performance," and a Trace Adkins concert with a mere $20 admission.
