Be Kind, Set a Good Example, Increase Your Net Worth

As I get older, I find myself placing more emphasis than ever on kindness and doing the right thing. I'm talking about small things that are easily rationalized, only I try not to rationalize them anymore. I go out of my way to do simple things like return a shopping cart so the store workers don't have to hunt it down, thanking people as often as possible, and saying hello to a passing stranger. Partly, it's because I want to set a good example for my children. And partly, it's because I have come to truly believe that my small acts of kindness make a difference, and that good acts attract good things to my life.

From this perspective, I believe that this post at Make More of Your Job has a valid premise. Simply being friendly and kind can open doors you may not be able to envision yet. I believe this was also a main point in the book, Never Eat Alone, based on Trent's review over at The Simple Dollar. (Because of Trent's review, I've added the book to my "must-read" list.)

Hi Cathy,

Thank you for the mention! I think Curt at Occupational Adventure hit it on the head on his blog when he said that being kind is really in our best interests, whether personally or professionally. My experience from that post was definitely one that opened my eyes to the power of acting with kindness and generosity whenever possible.
