  • Maximizing the Taste of Baby Food

As I’ve mentioned previously, I’m committed to making my new baby’s food, just as I made his brother’s. But while my older son had the benefit of my time, my younger has the benefit of my experience and I think he’s getting better food for it. For example, following the directions in several sources, I steamed a lot of food the first time around. But steaming doesn’t really do anything for taste. So this time, I’m trying to bake as many foods as possible to caramelize the sugars and boost the flavor without adding any seasoning (yet). So far I’ve baked sweet potatoes (in the toaster oven) and made applesauce in the slow cooker. Of course, the best way to provide great flavor is to buy what’s in season and serve it as is – I’m serving pears, bananas, and avocados that way.

Thanks for the tip! I was just about to steam sweet potato for my youngest. I will try baking it. I know it will taste better to him.
